Orwell on political language

While there are many reasons to admire famous British author Eric Arthur Blair, known by his pen name as George Orwell, his explanation on use of political language is surely one of the best;

‘Political language; and with variations this is true of all political parties, from Conservatives to Anarchists, is designed to make lies sound truthful and murder respectable, and to give an appearance of solidity to pure wind.’

    1. Hi there -:)!

      He was certainly a master words-smith and an excellent thinker. His acute and accurate awareness of social injustices and evils of totalitarianism have earned him immortality!

      Many thanks for your visit -:)!!

      2. I can’t agree more! And you know I am ‘dying’ to write a post about what happened today (I was in one of those ‘writing for business’ workshops … ) but am too tired, so will have to wait until the weekend! Entering one’s blog is like coming home and talking about what is going on!
        Keep Well!

    1. Hi my friend,

      Thank you for the visit and the comment -:)!

      This kind of truth has been with humans since the ancient times … so don’t be sad about it -:)! It is all part of universal human experience and Orwell knew it so well that he put pan to paper and made it immortal for the rest of us!

      Many thanks,

  1. It has been said that his book, ‘Homage to Catalonya’ was the best book about the Spanish Civil war. He saw the incursions and machinations of the Stalinists before anybody else in Europe… Then came ‘Animal Farm’, etc. Much appreciated.

      Yes, I think so too; ‘Homage to Catalonia’ is his personal account of that war that provided him with necessary platform for his later work.
      Kind Regards,
