Some twenty years ago, Nelson based, New Zealand sculptor, Suzy Moncrieff, had an idea on how to promote a rural art gallery. She decided to take the art off the walls and dress humans in it! And the idea of the World of Wearable Art (WOW) was born!
It has also migrated from Nelson to Wellington, country’s capital Lonely Planet described as the; ‘coolest little capital in the world’, and has become an annual event that attracts entries and audience from all over the world. In 2010, Mark D’Arcy as a guest judge commented that the show; ‘makes Lady Gaga look like a librarian and has more originality and creativity per minute than any other show I have ever seen.’ D’Arcy is a New York based creative arts and media expert.
Last night saw display of the same, if not even higher calibre of entries. The World of Wearable Art (WOW) Awards Show was once again kaleidoscope of spectacular and breath-taking creativity. During the two hours of music, dance, and theatre, designers from various occupations, different backgrounds and from all over the world, made visions of their imagination and skill walk on stage, like beings from some other worlds.
Take a look at some of those incredible creations selected as the top designs.
